The first rollout of ChatterBox is being done on the ESP32 platform, and specifically Lilygo devices. The Lilygo devices have been chosen because they are easy to obtain and for the most part, ready to use right out of Amazon or wherever you acquire them, without any difficult setup.
Porting from the SAMD51 / FRAM-centric devices over to ESP32 provided a good opportunity to add SD card support. The ESP32 offerings will likely continue to expand to support future ready-to-go offerings by Lilygo and other manufacturers that follow a similar path.
