Secure Mesh Location Sharing

The location screen is useful if you need to know where you and others are, relative to one another. For example, if you are hiking and become separated, this will show each party how to get back to the other, even with no internet connectivity. The relative location you see is based on GPS coordinates from satellites, coordinates exchanged via RF/mesh, and calculations done on your device. This means even off-grid secure mesh location sharing is possible with ChatterBox. The mesh aspect allows devices to propagate locations between devices that are not within immediate reach. Location sharing also happens via MQTT, if enabled.

As mentioned elsewhere, location data is always encrypted on your device and during transmission to other devices.

If you are in a hiking situation like that and choose to separate from other parties, leaving a node running in a high/good line of sight location should help to ensure your locations keep getting shared with one another, even if you become separated by a good distance.

North (0 degrees) is always oriented at the top of the screen.

If you are moving and have a live GPS connection, you will see a line pointing from your dot, indicating the direction you are currently headed. Other on-cluster devices moving in the area may also show the same on your map.
